• University Storm Recovery Updates

    UPDATE: Tuesday, Oct. 29, 8:30 a.m.
We are pleased to announce that Wi-Fi service has been restored to the Asheville Center. Current students, faculty, and staff may now access the building for study, work or other necessary activities. Please note there may be occasional short outages as our service provider continues the recovery process.

Drinking water is not available in the building. Some bottled water is available on site, but we encourage anyone using the building to bring their own drinking water if possible. The bathrooms on site now have working toilets.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate the challenges posed by Hurricane Helene. Please stay tuned for further updates.

Academic Advising & Student Success Services

Assisting students to successfully navigate their academic journey from orientation through graduation.

Lenoir-Rhyne University is committed to the success of our students as whole persons and BEAR Central shares in this mission. BEAR Central student success efforts work to shore up institutional efforts, strengthen outcomes and directly assist students in achieving their educational goals.

  • Academic Advising

Academic advising at LR centers on the creation of an educational plan that reflects your own unique interests, abilities, goals and values. This plan includes both the coursework required for your degree and learning opportunities and experiences beyond the classroom, including co-curricular activities, study abroad and internships.

BEAR Central provides general advising services to all first-year and new transfer students as well as academic coaching and support to any student in need.

Our services equip you with the strategies and resources needed to:

    • Explore academic interests and choose a major
    • Develop plans to reach academic, personal, and career goals
    • Engage in more productive study and learning behaviors
    • Manage time more effectively
    • Return to good academic standing
    • Achieve the goal of earning a Lenoir-Rhyne University degree

General advising services are offered to all first-year and exploratory students as well as success coaching and help with academic planning to any student in need. • First-Generation Students

First-generation students are those students whose parents/guardians did not complete a four-year college or university degree.

Our goal is to help first-generation students tap into their strengths and meet their challenges in a supportive community of other first-generation students, faculty and staff.

Faculty & Staff Resources

  • Advising Resources

Faculty and staff can find information about advising, related academic policies as well as important advising contacts alongside other faculty resources on the LR Portal. The university catalog is also a great resource.

  • Student Concern Referral Form

Faculty may alert the Office of Student Support and Outreach when students have attendance, academic performance and/or other issues using the Student Concern Referral Form. This form automatically notifies Student Support and Outreach staff.

Student support staff will work immediately to connect with the student, determine need and quickly connect them to available resources, including, the Office of Student Success, Dean of Students, Cornerstone Wellness Center, counseling services and many others. In most cases, faculty and staff may not be updated on the referral outcome to maintain student confidentiality.

Each student has a unique care network, comprised of campus members that can step in and support our students on their path to success.
